TOK Y LAS HERRAMIENTAS MATERIALES
Los estudiantes de grado décimo del Colegio Mayor de los Andes visitaron el laboratorio de ciencias para conocer algunas de las herramientas didácticas que se usan en las clases de química, física y biología. Esta actividad, realizada en el marco de la clase de Teoría del Conocimiento del IB, tenía como objetivo evaluar la pregunta: ¿Qué tan útiles son las herramientas materiales en la búsqueda del conocimiento? Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de experimentar con diferentes equipos tales como: un microscopio, un anemómetro, un pH metro de líquidos y de suelo, un luxómetro, un refractómetro. También conversaron con el laboratorista sobre los diferentes usos de estas herramientas en las clases.
Los estudiantes coincidieron en que este tipo de recursos son una herramienta valiosa para la búsqueda del conocimiento y que son indispensables para realizar algunos experimentos científicos. También discutieron sobre las limitaciones que pueden tener algunas, por los rangos de medición que manejan. Todo ello permitió a los estudiantes reflexionar sobre las ventajas y desventajas de las herramientas materiales en la búsqueda del conocimiento científico.

TOK AND THE MATERIAL TOOLS
The tenth grade students at Mayor de los Andes School visited the science laboratory to learn about some of the material tools used in chemistry, physics and biology classes. This activity, was carried out within the framework of the IB Theory of Knowledge class, aimed to assess the question: How important are material tools in the production or acquisition of knowledge? The students had the opportunity to experiment with different material tools, such as a microscope, an anemometer, a pH meter of liquids and soil, a lux meter, a refractometer. They also talked with the laboratory technician about the different uses of these tools in the classes.
The students agreed that material tools are a valuable tool for the pursuit of knowledge and that they are indispensable for conducting some scientific experiments. They also discussed the limitations that some tools may have due to the measurement ranges they handle. All this allowed the students to reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of material tools in the search for scientific knowledge.
